Summer Schools

The CAPAZ Institute organises academic schools in Germany and Colombia, in which students from both countries, decision-makers, and civil society peacebuilders participate. CAPAZ schools have addressed issues such as international and comparative law; territorial peace; memory, truth, and reconciliation; and peace and social inequalities.

  • Private-sector partnerships and peacebuilding: A non-binding process?

My research is related to the phenomena of private-sector partnerships that promote development and peacebuilding in the region of Valle del Cauca in Colombia. I consider cross-sectoral partnerships as mechanisms to enhance the co-responsibility of organizations and firms. Specifically, I am interested in understanding criteria and rationalities involved in decision making processes, interactions between stakeholders and their commitment to generate regional transformations that face the challenges raised by transitional justice and peacebuilding....

  • A strange world: A Summer School in law in Germany

I will always be grateful for the opportunity that the Institute CAPAZ gave me to take part in the Summer Law School in International and Comparative Law at the Justus-Liebig Universitat Giessen. Everything was new and rewarding in this experience. I thank the opportunity to share with people from different disciplines, nationalities and cultures and staying during a month in a foreign country. I thank the opportunity to travel around distinct cities and, obviously, the courses that I received in this period....

  • Coming back with a suitcase full of ideas!

One of the reasons for attending an international summer school is the possibility to discover different legal schools and traditions based on the experiences of classmates and professors. The learned perspectives on the political and peace processes, armed conflict, peace building and the implementation and guarantee of human rights all over the world were all very diverse....

  • Summer school in Germany: An opportunity to support peacebuilding in Colombia

In July and August 2017, through a collaboration project between Colombia and Germany, Instituto CAPAZ provided me the opportunity to attend the summer school at Justus Liebig University in Giessen (Germany). The project was aimed at directing efforts in the generation of training processes, academic updating, and exchanges between Colombian and German students and professionals, to whom the entire span of the experience became a scenario of continued learning....

  • Exchange of ideas, cultural approach and knowledge building

As a researcher, I am interested in two particular topics. The first is directly related with the question about how to deal with the past; specifically, I constantly ask myself about traditional criminal and penitentiary law institutions, in order to rethink them and remove their veil of neutrality.  My second topic of investigation is related to the building of a future after the conflict and questions how integrity in legal institutions can be achieved. For both of these questions, I obtained a theoretical approach in the classes that I took at Giessen University....

  • A cultural and academic experience

Taking part in the summer school at Giessen University was an enriching and gratifying experience. In June this year, I was lucky enough to receive an email from Instituto CAPAZ granting me a scholarship to take part in the program. At the time, I wasn’t fully aware of what this would mean to my academic, professional and personal training. In the first place, it was about venturing into a new culture, which meant that I was learning from the very first day. The program was also aimed at students of all ages, levels, and cultures, meaning that every interaction was an exchange of culture, language and knowledge....

Am 26. November 2017 kam ich in Bogotá mit einem Rucksack voll mit Thesen und Fragen an. Orte des Austausches waren fünf verschiedene Universitäten in Bogotá....
