Environmental conflicts and inequalities in Colombia globe: a talk with Stefan Peters and a debate with activists from the climate justice movement Leipzig
Globally, climate justice is more like climate injustice. Especially in Latin America, there are evident social and political distortions of resource extractivism and drastic changes in the environment, such as deforestation for cattle ranching. Colombia is a case in point: in rural regions, conflict over land and resource use is a source of inequality and violent conflict. In August 2022, Francía Marquez, a progressive environmental activist, became vice president and aims to fight precisely these injustices to transform the country. How are the environment and economic inequalities related? What political and social answers can be found?
