Dr. Reinhard Babel: the new director of the DAAD regional office in Bogotá
As of this year, the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD (Deutsches Akademisches Austauschdienst) has a new regional office in Bogotá, which has been strengthening cooperation networks between Germany and other countries in the region: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
Dr. Reinhard Babel was recently appointed director of this new office. Dr. Babel holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, was a DAAD lecturer in Chile at Universidad de Concepción from 2006 to 2010, Director of the DAAD Information Centre in Bogotá from 2014 to 2019, and then, from 2019 to 2021, headed the section responsible for cooperation projects with Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa at the DAAD in Germany.
In the letter, Dr. Babel wrote to the DAAD partners in the region, he clarified that:
“In this new phase in Bogotá, I come with great enthusiasm and expectations to lead this DAAD office, which has become a regional office and from which we have the enormous challenge of connecting Germany with Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Creating synergies in this region is essential to multiply the opportunities for cooperation, and academic and scientific exchanges between our countries”.
