CAPAZ expresses solidarity with victims of violence and social leaders in Colombia
CAPAZ issued a statement in response to the Report issued by the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia of June 27, 2023. The report highlights the worrying situation of violence against FARC peace signatories, social leaders, and magistrates of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) working on the case of extrajudicial executions in Dabeiba.
In its statement, CAPAZ expressed its solidarity with the people who risk their lives for their commitment to peace. It also reasserted its support for transitional justice mechanisms and peace-building initiatives that continue to develop despite the context of insecurity.
CAPAZ called on the Colombian State to take all necessary measures and provide the minimum conditions of security and protection required for the effective participation of communities, ex-combatants, and other key actors in the implementation of the peace process in different parts of the country.
In its recent publication, CAPAZ analysed the impact of violence on victims, communities and participants in meeting the goals of transitional justice. It also reflected on the importance of addressing security guarantees from an integral perspective, which considers the structural causes of the conflict and the reconfiguration of violence.
CAPAZ is committed to continue working together with Colombian society in the search for true reconciliation and the consolidation of peace.
