As part of our Education and Science Diplomacy project, we are pleased to present One-Pager #5, entitled “Pandemic effects and community strategies: health, poverty, and security”. The paper was written by Solveig Richter and Leonardo Salcedo and is based on the project: “The need to protect life: the dynamics between health and security during the Covid-19 pandemic in Colombia’s conflict-affected territories”, implemented by the Leipzig University, Universidad del Rosario, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and funded by the German Research Society (DFG).
The purpose of this research project is to describe and analyse the effects, between March 2020 and September 2021, of the Covid-19 pandemic, in rural territories affected by Colombia’s armed conflict, as well as these territories’ rural communities’ responses to these effects. The project is both qualitative and quantitative in its approach.
Among the main recommendations of the research are the implementation of the comprehensive rural reform proposed in the Final Agreement signed between the Colombian Government and the FARC-EP guerrilla in 2016, and our learning from the strategies implemented by rural communities to contain the pandemic.
Please note that a OnePager is a short (maximum of one or two pages), informative or illustrative document on the state of the art in research on a topic or object of CAPAZ-supported research and completed or ongoing projects.
