Kai Ambos talks to El Espectador about cannabis decriminalization and international law
Dr. Kai Ambos, professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Comparative Criminal Law, International Criminal Law and Public International Law at the University of Göttingen (Germany), and judge of the Special Court for Kosovo (The Hague), wrote a column for El Espectador in which he relates the decriminalization of cannabis with the existing regulations in international law on this subject.
«The decriminalization of cannabis use (…) raises problems linked to international law. At least that would be the general opinion, but it would seem that almost none of the analysts have consulted the relevant treaties. Those who do will realize relatively quickly that the provisions of international law are by no means unambiguous and that compatibility with international law depends crucially on the concrete design of a more liberal cannabis policy» – Kai Ambos
