Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters to join online conference on science diplomacy in Europe
Europe is defined as a community united around common values, and right now, it is facing great economic, social, and political challenges. The coronavirus pandemic has challenged the countries’ plans, which, now more than ever, require a search for and implementation of joint international cooperation strategies and actions to overcome the health emergency as well as the emerging humanitarian, socio-environmental, and international relations-associated crises. Politics, science and academia play a fundamental role in shaping Europe and in the collaborative resolution of crisis situations. The three institutions converge in what is known as science diplomacy.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Federal Foreign Office welcome those interested to their conference titled: “European Science Diplomacy – Wissenschaft, Politik, Gesellschaft – gemeinsam Zukunft gestalten” (European science diplomacy – Science, politics, society – building the future together).
The online conference will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (German time).
To take part, please register in advance (in German)
The seminar will include three thematic blocks: the first deals with knowledge and innovation for a better future; the second, is on the science-politics-society triad, based on the exchange of experiences, with three workshops on environment and sustainability; international crisis management, and accessibility to science or open science. Finally, rather than developing a specific topic, the third block is designed to summarize the two previous workshops and offer a final discussion.
CAPAZ Academic Director and Professor of Peace Studies at Justus-Liebig University, Giessen, Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters will speak in the second part of the workshop on international crisis management.
The event will take place in the framework of the German Presidency of the European Council and the Berlin Science Week.
