“The Final Agreement at crossroads”: Francisco Cortés for El Colombiano
We are pleased to present the recent opinion column by Francisco Cortés Rodas, professor of the Institute of Philosophy at Universidad de Antioquia, published in Medellín newspaper El Colombiano:
“There are growing numbers of killings of social and community leaders, land claimants, members of indigenous councils, community action boards, and human rights defenders. According to the report by ‘Somos Defensores’, recently published in El Espectador, 442 social leaders have been murdered in Colombia since the peace agreement was signed with the FARC guerrillas. In its in Report No. 4, the Kroc Institute at the University of Notre Dame reports affirms that 2019 was the deadliest year for former guerrilla fighters, with 77 murders, and that the extermination continues unabated, with 197 murders between January and May 2020. These killings have had a devastating effect on the implementation of the Final Agreement”.
