This exploratory study aims to formulate a multidisciplinary research project focused in proposing solutions for the problems that are currently affecting rural communities in the Department of Nariño, Colombia. In particular, it will focus in incorporating actions to fight against poverty and ensure food security promoting productive insertion simultaneously with environment protection. The project aims to identify territorial development alternatives with a greater potential to ensure food and nutrition security, and improve life conditions of poor communities in the setting of post-conflict.
The project seeks: 1) To spatialize in digital format biophysics and socioeconomic characteristics in some territories of the Department of Nariño affected by the armed conflict; 2) to identify, throughout participative processes, the products and services with greater potential that the communities of the selected territories can provide; 3) to evaluate critical factors that affect the value chains of the products and services with greater potential; and 4) to design sustainable development alternatives in the selected rural territories considering suitable products and services to promote food security, preserve biodiversity and achieve productive diversification.
